OK. But nothing on who could/could not practice the form (particularly in caste-bound India)? I would imagine one would have to be relatively well off (if not entirely privileged) in order to have access to both opportunity and material sustenance in order to even imagine becoming any kind of central participant in such ritualized cultural practices. But, again, I'm coming at this from a position of complete ignorance, much to my annoyance.

Ah, cool--caste talk. I was wondering how (and even if) that applied amongst the purveyors and consumers of this particular music/cultural form/what-have-you. Of course, I am completely ignorant of how the caste system applies in a predominantly islamic setting/culture.
